Fedora Feather Updated!

01-Jan-08

Fedora Feather has been updated. Here’s the info from contributer:
I tested this on a fresh Fedora 8 install on my laptop.
+ It now installs Adobe Acrobat
+ Fedora Version is grabbed from /etc/issue so it isn’t locked into Fedora 7.
I tested on Fedora 8.
+ the MS fonts required chkfontpath so I added a check and install [...]

Sony VGN-T140P & Fedora 7

21-Oct-07

This was one of the easiest Fedora installs I’ve ever done. Everything except sound was usable out of the box, and the sound issue was resolved in a matter of minutes. To fix the sound, go to System –> Preferences –> Personal –> Volume Control. In the Volume Control window, click on Edit, then Preferences. [...]

Double Standards at Fedora?

09-Oct-07

One of the things I love about Fedora is that it only includes Free software. Despite the fact that any and all patent encumbered or non-open licensed software has to be installed manually, I can’t help but respect the project for taking a stand for Freedom.
That’s why I was extremely disappointed, almost hurt, when I [...]

Key Authentication for SSH with GUI Configuration in Fedora and Ubuntu

24-Sep-07

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of guides on the Internet for setting up SSH so that you don’t have to use a password to authenticate. What’s different about this one? A GUI. Most of the other guides involve using the command line to create the key and send it to the proper place on [...]

Did you know that Email is sent in clear text over the Internet? Yeah, it is, and unless you take steps to secure it, anyone who intercepts a message can easily read it. It’s also really easy for someone to send an email that looks like it came from you. The open source solution for [...]

Adding Realtek HD sound to Fedora

11-Sep-07

Here is how I added sound to my Fedora 7 install on my Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard, which has Realtek ALC888 onboard hi-def audio chip:

Download the drivers from the Realtek here. Use the “Others” link in the Unix(Linux) table, as the other three entries are pretty old by this point. Untar the file.
Open a root terminal [...]

Fedora Feather Updated

10-Sep-07

Just wanted to let everyone know that I fixed a bug and added an option to install the Microsoft TrueType Core Fonts. See the original page here: http://linuxbraindump.org/2007/09/03/fedora-feather/
Thanks to Mauriat Miranda for creating the RPM for the fonts, and to http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/ for making the files available.

HowTo - Split a FLAC File Using the CUE Sheet

03-Sep-07

Don’t you hate it when your bittorrent download of an album finishes, and you realize that it’s one flac file and one cue file? Unless your goal is to recreate the CD, this format probably won’t be much good to you. You probably want a separate flac file for each song. Splitting the file is [...]
